During lockdown we invited people to submit a photo that captured something positive despite the darkness of the time and we donated £100 to HIWCF to support projects to tackle the impact of Covid-19.
Here are some of the photos that were shared during that time as part of My Planet My Voice.
When we go out for our daily walk, I love the fact that the grass has been left to grow in many places which has allowed the wild flowers to flourish. Sarah, East Cowes “Standing atop St Catherine’s down, the first – and only? – time in my days that the sky lark song is not in competition with the roar of tyres and whine of exhausts from the roads below.
A light breeze, a warm sun and a window into what could be”I found this tied to a railing this morning while out running. It lifted my mood during this difficult time and brought a smile to my face. It’s the little things. Sally, Isle of Wight “Sums up some of the positive aspects of this time having time to create, read and cook and time with my family” Time for a coffee inspired poem My Sister shared this photo with me and I love the vibrant colour. She had taken the time to stop and savour the moment and then passed it to me to savour. This represents community to me, we were all experiencing lockdown individually and reaching out to each other. Kim, New Forest .” Took this photo on my local walk. Cormorant drying it’s wings , I watched it for a while and some time before this photo it was fishing quite successfully. During the lockdown I’ve been walking a lot locally and discovering places I’d not seen before. The planet seems to be recovering , feels less polluted somehow.” My usual route to work is jumping in the car and joining in the rest of the island in the traffic queue.
Since COVID-19 have dug out my hand built bike to breathe some fresh air into my daily commute, the roads are quieter as such I feel a lot safer, ChrisMy topiary box plant which I have trained and cut into a ‘Peace’ sign. Niton, Isle of Wight. Permaculture IslandIn lockdown I had the time to look at details when I was out walking. I noticed the pattern of the bark and it reminded me of a totem pole. I had a sense of strength and wisdom. Kim, New Forest Getting out on our bikes for once a day exercise while the roads were quiet and able to drink in and really experience nature was a precious part of the day, Anne and Dan, Havant Offering people free wildflower seeds, Claire, Isle of Wight Here’s a photo of a robin I met on the walk I took before breakfast near Canoe Lake and the Rose Gardens. It was really relaxing and the birdsong clear- a great way to start the day. I love robins as they’re so friendly and have character. Jane, Southsea
